Guarnaschelli began her journey into the culinary world by watching as she watched mom, who was editing cookbooks in the early days and test a variety of recipes. Following her time working with Larry Forgione, she worked at several restaurants including Guy Savoy's La Butte Chaillot in New York France Los Angeles. She was appointed head chef at Butter. Guarnaschelli was a contestant on Food Network's Iron Chef America in 2007. She fought Cat Cora at the Farmers Market Battle of 2007 and she won. Guarnaschelli has since been a judge on the program and in 2011 competed in The Next Iron Chef season four where she was the third place finisher. She also competed on The Food Network Challenge Ultimate Thanksgiving Feast episode but was eliminated from the contest. In the fourth season she was Geoffrey Zakarian's sous chef. She was the host of Food Network's The Cooking Loft With Alex Guarnaschelli in 2008, and she instructs a small class of students in how to make classic recipes.
